The Water, the Wavemaker, and the Secret Hotel - Part One
To thank subscribers for supporting the show, I've been posting up additional subscriber-only series over on Bandcamp. Today, I launched into a new one. In the 1960s, Disney quietly assembled a massive tract of land, including multiple lakes, that would later form its resort in Florida. This series explores how Disney tried to lure beachgoers to its central Florida resort, by creating a massive manmade lagoon with pristine beaches, constructing a (rarely-working) wavemaker to pump out surfable waves, and even buying land on the coast in 1971 for a set of secret beachside hotels. PART ONE.
